Noah and His Ladieeeeeeeeees!

Last week I had a picnic lunch with Noah at his school for public school week. The weather was perfect! And we picnicked it up in true Harvey fashion with take-out...from Carino's. I'd have been fine with PB&J or Chick-fil-A like everyone else, but lately the boy has been turning his nose up at those childish offerings. ;) His tastes are much more refined for things like grilled lemon rosemary chicken with penne pasta and a brown butter sauce...I realize this is my fault...he was never given jarred foods, we rarely eat canned foods, and I serve fresh fruits and/or veggies with every meal. I'm fine with it...he's definitely my boy with his penchant for variety!
After lunch we were invited back to class for music & movement and sensory fun! I don't know why I didn't think to turn my camera on for the dancing part, but I've got this cute one of Noah drawing in shaving cream. NOW I know what that smell is Noah comes home with occasionally. I thought it might be soap, but it wasn't daily, so I really had no clue and kept forgetting to ask.

Open House night was really just a pop in to say hello. (And to get Brian's BBQ, since it's allll the way on the other side of town...like 4 miles away...there I go with the food talk again...) I feel we've got great communication with Noah's teacher and we pretty much know how things are going in class. Noah was really happy to be at school and acted pretty hyper in front of his teachers, so it was kind of hard to get him to sit for a photo. But we got a couple! These are the other ladies in Noah's life!

We think Ms. H is wonderful and has so much kindness and patience for our boy. And we're pretty sure he's quite fond of her!

When we left, he was a totally different kid...calm and quiet and GREAT at dinner. Well of course he was...there was food involved! ;) That's my boy!

The Day Mommy was Mean to the Bunny

Ready for another poop story? I took the bunny to McDonald's for lunch yesterday - her request. I was trying to convince her she'd rather have lo mein noodles and bourbon chicken, but she insisted on a cheeseburger. Sometimes it's really hard to deny my princess! Anyway, all was great until she decided she needed to go potty.

Going potty in public isn't a big deal. She'll go anywhere and everywhere. In fact, she likes having to potty in public. Even if she has just emptied her bladder at home, she's always able to muster up something to tinkle out.

So, I boosted her up onto the big toilet and she pooped. I wiped her - standard protocol - and she hopped off. *SWOOSH* The automatic toilet flushed her poop! And she immediately started screaming. Screaming accompanied with giant tears and flowing snot. Did I mention we were in a public restroom? Good times. She was carrying on this way not because the SWOOSH scared her, but because SHE didn't flush her poop. "It's Jordan's poop to flush! It's my poop! I flush it! You don't flush my poop!"

You read that right. She gets upset if anyone but herself flushes HER poop. She thought I had flushed. I hadn't. The toilet did it by itself, but I got in trouble. There's no reasoning with a three year-old; much less, reasoning with a three year-old who thinks she's been wrongfully denied the privilege of flushing away her own poopy glory.

One time, Noah flushed the bunny's poop because he was standing right next to the flusher. She got sooooo angry. And cried. And sobbed herself to sleep for her nap. Then woke up and sobbed some more. And berated Noah for flushing her poop. Can you believe my obsessive, little, got-to-flush-her-own-poop princess holds grudges?! So harsh. Poor Noah!

Immediately, she demanded to get back on the toilet to poop again so she could flush it. She had none left. But she did manage a few drips. And this time she did get to, "push the bunnent* to flush it myself." I shudder to think what would have happened had I not been able to disable the automatic sensor...

From now on, when we're in a public restroom with automatic flushing toilets, I MUST remember the little trick my friend Laurie taught me to temporarily disable the automatic flusher. Tear off a couple squares of toilet paper, lick a spot near the edge, and stick it over the sensor. Brilliant, no?

I'm not sure what's going to be worse the next time we potty in a public restroom; forgetting to disable the sensor or having my child say, "Mommy, don't forget to lick the toilet paper."

The video is the other thing that happened that day. The bunny tells it like it happened: She drank chocolate milk. She finished it. I threw away the empty container. She screamed at me. She wanted to drink her milk. I told her it was empty. She screamed at me. She wanted to drink her milk. I told her it was empty. She screamed at me...

Bowling Tips

The bunny has some foolproof tips for Wii Bowling:
  • Up!
  • B bunnent! (B button)
  • Swing!
  • Berlease! (Release)

Encore performance:

Her record is 132. I can't even Wii Bowl a 132 and I most certainly can't do that for real!

Ha! Whoooooa! Yeah!

Is she watching/playing too much Mario Kart? The course where they jump on toadstools is one of the bunny's faves. She has recreated her own little obstacle course. And she makes the accompanying sound effects.

Please disregard the ladder in the background. I've been painting. One. wall. at. a. time.

Hearsay

The other night I was in the living room, minding my own business when I heard someone telling someone else not to squeeze a cup. Then I heard someone giggle. Then I heard someone tell someone else they were going to break it. Then I heard someone giggle again. Then I heard someone raise their voice to someone else. Then I heard someone cry. Then I heard someone apologize. Then I heard someone and someone else kiss and make up.

I didn't see any of it so I'm not a trusted authority on the matter. However, I did get an interview with someone who witnessed the entire event:

Fun Saturday

Saturday mornings are the best time to go to our local pool. Oftentimes we have the pool all to ourselves. Sometimes, like today, one or two families show up, but the pool is big enough for everyone. I just wanted to share a little bit of our fun!
The bunny wanted her brother to catch her and carry her. He's tall enough to stand in that area of the pool. I couldn't get the camera angle, but he was laughing and smiling while holding his sister.

Yellow and Blue Make Green

About a month ago, Mike bought the kids some tub paints and started showing them how to mix primary colors. It didn't take them long to catch on and it's sweet to listen to the bunny quiz her brother on the color combinations. He'll answer her, too! They're the cutest, little mix masters ever! I couldn't decide which video to share, so you get them all:

Speed Racer

Is it bad that I give the bunny a remoteless wheel and put the Mario Kart Grand Prix race on replay mode (which keeps replaying until you stop it) and make her think she's driving while I come check my email? And is it bad that she's fallen asleep while playing this way not once but twice?

Moving Right Along

Remember how the bunny used to say, "bitzy-bays" for strawberries? I still miss it, but her current, "straw-ber-arries" is pretty cute. Noah's, "straw-ber-bellies" is also super cute. I hope that sticks around for a while because, "law-ler" has been replaced by, "wa-ter." Dude! He only gave me a month with that pronunciation and he's already moving on. Sheesh! Seriously, though, I couldn't be more proud!

Noah will ask for something by naming the object and looking at us. We've worked on adding on, "please" and "thank you." This week we've been working on, "I want." Every day he tries so hard and builds on his conversation skills. Yesterday, we had this exchange:

Noah: Piece of gum.
Me: Say, "I want."
Noah: Piece of gum. Please. Bank you, Mommy.
Me: Say, "I want a piece of gum, please."
Noah: I want piece of gum. Please. Bank you, Mommy.

I know I push him, but I know he's capable. I also know he's a little schemer. A couple weeks ago while he was sitting on the toilet, trying to convince me he was done when I knew better, he said, "Ha ub you." It took me a moment to realize what he said when he said it again and hopped off the commode and gave me a hug. Then he said, "all done pee pee." Right, buddy, I love you, too, but you're getting back on that toilet. He did. And he peed. And he got his, "peanut m-m-m."

I guess it's only fitting that he tells me he loves me for the first time unprompted while he's on the toilet. I guess he figures that I'll always remember it that way since my world revolves around my children's bowel habits. And since I so enjoy discussing toilet issues with anyone and everyone. Hahaha!

I've waited over five years to hear my son tell me he loves me. I'll take it any way I can get it and I'm happy to share with everyone! Since it happened so close to my birthday, I'll take it as my birthday gift from Noah. One I will always remember!

Speaking of birthdays, we spent that day at the Museum of Natural Science. Both kids love the planetarium and we watched an animated show involving the Zula Patrol. I'm not familiar with the show, but Mike says he's seen it on PBS. I trust him. Anyway, we got some cute photos of the kids posing as the characters from the show. Both were too short to stick their heads in the holes so I held each one up individually while Mike snapped the photo. But the magic of Photoshop allows me to present one photo. Shhhh, it'll be our little secret!
